A London season of plays about gays by gays

The King’s Head theatre in Upper Street, Islington, London is holding its fourth Queer Season celebrating the most interesting and innovative LGBTQ1+ theatre currently being created in modern Britain It will open on 25 July and run until 1 September. The programme includes the European premiere of For Reasons That Remain Unclear by Mart Crowley wrote the Boys in the Band to be directed by Jessica Lazar. It is a two hander examining the complex questions of power and fidelity.

Other highlights of the season will include Tennessee Williams’ And Tell Sad Stories of the Deaths of Queens about a new Orleans drag queen, a play not performed during his lifetime because of its explicit gay content; The. Cluedo Club Killings, a queer murder mystery, which comes following a sell out run at the Arcola theatre in Dalston; and the Minerva Collective Sacrament which explores the challenge of coming out as a lesbian in Catholic Ireland.

Adam Spreadbury-Maher, director of the King’s Head, said that queer work was a vital aspect of the theatre’s programming and they were committed to being a space where queer lives were explored and queer artists had a voice. The programme would place works by established writers alongside some from exciting emerging dramatists.
