Top 3 from 2019, Cormac Richards

Including productions I haven't reviewed I will make 82 theatre visits in 2019, thus choosing a top three is almost impossible, but why not have a go?

So, after some thought here they are - no specific order - and these are all productions I reviewed for this site - all received top marks.

1. THE LIFE I LEAD by James Kettle - Reviewed at The Northcott Theatre, Exeter - This beautifully written and immaculately performed one-man play about the actor David Tomlinson was one of this pieces of theatre that makes you want to explore further. 2. IN THE WILLOWS by Poppy Burton-Morgan, Pippa Cleary & Keiran Merrick - Reviewed at The Northcott Theatre, Exeter - A hip-hop version of The Wind in the Willows - seriously? Yes, that's what I thought, but I always attempt to take an open mind with me! Glad I did. This joyful, inventive, colourful and energetic show had everything - all with a healthy respect for the original work. I loved it and would have been happy to see it again and again! A total tonic! 3. THE KING'S SPEECH by David Seider - Reviewed at The Manor Pavilion Theatre, Sidmouth. When I saw that this play was on the schedule for the Summer Play Season at Sidmouth (the only 12 week professional repertory season in the UK), I knew I wanted to see it. I was not disappointed. A complex play seamlessly presented on stage with a particularly standout performance by Chris Casey as Bertie and superb direction from Robert McWhir, this was totally engrossing theatre with the highest of production values. Might I add honourable mentions for two other productions - The Ballet Boyz show THEM/US and THE BARBER OF SEVILLE from Opera Project and the Tobacco Factory - both exquisite!
