Rose by Martin Sherman - Hope Mill Theatre production on line 10 to 12 September 2020. 4****. William Russell.
Starring Maureen Lipman this fine production of Sherman's celebrated play in which an 80 year old Jewish woman looks back at her life from pogroms in the Ukraine to the ghetto in Warsaw, from sailing to Israel on the Exodus, from life in America and in Israel is being screened in aid of Age UK, The Fed and UK Jewish Film. Lipman delivers a tour de force performance, and it is moving, at times funny = Rose has a way with words - and challenging. Our past has some shameful moments and the Exodus story is one of them, albeit long forgotten. Rose is a survivor to admire.
