The Remote Reading plays will not be script in hand affairs – there will be a full creative and production team behind them and they will raise money for stage technicians and creatives forced out of work by Covid-19 as well as the Felix Project food charity.

Originally written for television in 1966 it will be the first of five one-off performances of plays presented and streamed through Zoom. The players in this one will be Jenna Coleman, Denise Gough, David Morrissey, Ed Stoppard and Maggie Service. It is an enigmatic comedy set in a private nursing home whose world is disrupted with the arrival of John Brown, warm, charming and well able to afford the care – the trouble is he is perfectly healthy.
Director Sam Yates said that it would be an exciting opportunity to explore the possibilities of something new and untested – presenting a play on line with a star cast, designer, lighting designer, sound engineer and stage manager. “This one act play is a vibrant and moving exploration of connectedness and care, “ he added. “It comes at a time when artists are exploring how we can adapt our practices and connect with audiences.”

The standard ticket price will be £10 and for households it is suggested it should be £20.

Behind the project are the UK organisation Curtain Call, the USD-based non-profit organisation Appleas and Oranges Arts and the UK-based non-profit organisation Platform Presents.
