These are two of the three Beckett plays which Trevor Nunn directed in February this year at Jermyn Street and are now available on line through Digital Theatre. I reviewed them then and said it was an "evening of theatrical gold." I still stand by that. You can read the review of The Beckett Triple Bill in our archives so I am not going to repeat it here.
But something I do feel quite strongly abou productions in tiny theatres like Jermyn Street for any reviewer is that you can hear in your mind someone out there saying - "It is all right for you. What chance do I have in......lets say Much Binding in the Marsh.....of seeing them?" Now you do.
One of the results of lock down is that theatres like Jermyn Street are making their productions available - in this case two of the three plays. James Hayes stars in Krapp's Last Tape and David Threlfall and Nial Buggy in the rarely performed The Old Tune, which started life as a radio play. If you become a subscriber to Digital theatre you can watch for free, if you do not wish to do that you can rent the plays for 48 hours for £7.99 and watch them as often as you like within that time. They will be on line until 31 December.
They are superb productions and a chance not to miss. You will also be helping Jermyn Street survive.
