Three concerts filmed at the Cadogan Hall in aid of Acting for Others performed by young musical academy graduates. The talent on display is dazzling, and some may well go on to be the stars of the future. The profession is, as Coward said, overcrowded but these are all children Mrs Worthington would have been proud to put on stage and they come in all shapes and sizes and the voices are of every kind imaginable. In a way picking names is invidious, but from the first programme Karen Wilkinson singing I don't need a miracle has a lovely soprano voice of a quality all too rarely heard in musical theatre today and Jay Worsley singing the Hat song from Sunday in the Park with George dealt with all the problems Sondheim gives singers beautifully. But that is just me. You will have your own opinions. From programme two I liked India Chadwick's saucy rendering about the joys of Spring and Joely Colleen Ems who closed the show with a wonderfully raunchy performance singing at full 10 o'clock power.
But those are just the names I liked. You can make your own selection and there is no denying that there is talent aplenty to fill the musical stages of the future even if I didn't fall for all of their choices of song. But it was an impressive display and musical director Sam Young provided a dazzling accompaniment.
