From 1 July at 7pm until 4 July to 11.59pm there will be on line performances of the Original Theatre Company’s production of Sebastian Faulkes’ best selling novel Birdsong to mark the 104th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. Tickets can be obtained from
The earlier you book the cheaper the price which will include a donation to the Royal British Legion. Said to be the most ambitious on line production so far and will be directed by Alastair Whatley and Charlotte Peters with the cast in costume and video design.
Birdsong adapted for the stage by Rachel Wagstaff toured from 2013 until 2018, was seen by some 250,000 people in theatres across Britain and Ireland and received glowing reviews although not, it has to be said, in 2014 by Alexander Ray Edser who say that particular touring production. Other critics thought otherwise, however.
The cast of this production all appeared in the play at some point during its five years touring.
This on line event will be introduced by Sebastian Faulks.
