Alfred Molina becomes Patron of Court Theatre Training Company: Rod Dungate
Alfred Molina announced as patron of the Court Theatre Training Company
Alfred Molina is announced as the patron of the Court Theatre Training Company, which is based in Shoreditch in London.
19 August 2018
Molina is possibly most well-known for a host of major film roles, early on in Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Letter to Brezhnev but also, among others, Prick Up Your Ears, The Da Vinci Code and Spider-Man 2. He has recently appeared on our TV screens in in the haunting and disturbing Close To the Enemy by Stephen Poliakoff.
Alfred Molina is also a fine stage actor, recently playing in Long Day’s Journey Into Night (a real physical and emotional marathon) and Red in the London’s West End.
Alfred Molina is definitely not one of the posh-boy actors. He was educated in an ordinary London secondary school. At a time when there is real concern about arts subjects, including music and drama, being squeezed out of our school curriculums, Modlina recognises the importance of early support and encouragement.
Commenting on his appointment he said: ‘Acting and theatre have been the cornerstone of my professional and personal life. I was lucky enough to have a sympathetic mother, and a supportive and encouraging teacher, and some good fortune along the way as I made my life as an actor. But I have never forgotten or lost sight of the importance of study, training and the need for a creative space. The space might be a school, or a theatre group, or just the company of like-minded souls who share your passion and love for the craft. The Court Theatre Company provides so much of what an actor will need.’
As Molina becomes Patron, Tim Gill takes on the role of sole principal and artistic-director of the company, following the retirement of June Abbott.
