THEATRE BOOK OF THE YEAR

Mike Bradwell's THE RELUCTANT ESCAPOLOGIST: ADVENTURES IN ALTERNATIVE THEATRE, has won the Theatre Book of the Year, it was announced yesterday. When we reviewed it, we said: ‘Detailed, witty, a first-hand experience account of long involvement in alternative theatre.’

Receiving the award, Bradwell, characteristically remarked: ‘Theatre is too important to be left to the grown-ups.’ And he concluded, even more characteristically: ‘So please, be sure not to grow up.’
